Kolkata police rescued Timirkanti Majumdar, a loan agent, within four hours of his kidnapping near Netaji Bhavan metro station. The victim was abducted on Wednesday, and his wife, Taapsee Majumdar, filed a complaint on Friday with Bhawanipur police reporting the incident and a ransom demand of 5 lakh rupees via WhatsApp.
Taapsee had sent 10,000 rupees through UPI to the kidnappers before contacting the police. Using the mobile number linked to the UPI transaction, police tracked and arrested the primary suspect near Sukanta Setu. During interrogation, information about the other suspects was obtained.
Following the lead, the Bhawanipur police conducted a raid on an apartment in Jadavpur where Timirkanti and five accused—Sajal Bose, Sudip Majumdar, Suman Bose, Sameer Kumar Dev, and Sandipan Das—were found. All five suspects were arrested on the spot.
Police confirmed that Timirkanti Majumdar was rescued safely and is in good condition. The authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the kidnapping. The victim’s profession as a loan agent is being examined in relation to the case.
Preliminary findings suggest that the kidnapping may be connected to financial transactions involving Timirkanti. The police continue to investigate to uncover all details and any further accomplices involved in the case.
